Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
